Haze, Clarity & A Season of Unknowing

Good morning Subscriber First Name,

Thank you for being here! I am excited to use this space to share reflections, journal prompts, and intentions.

Smoke from wildfires in neighboring western states has settled into Bozeman. Like so many communities across the west, we are facing a heat wave with record temperatures. Haze obscures the mountains around the valley, and I feel a sense of angst, a desire to claw through the haze to return to clarity.

In these moments, coming back into awareness can ground me in the temporality of the seasons. This may be a season of haze, but it will eventually burn off. For now, may we be present to this season of unknowing. May we sit with the questions and trust that the answers will reveal themselves with time. May we embracing cooling presence in whatever form it presents itself.

A NEW RECORDING

The American Dipper is one of my favorite birds in the west. We found a pair of nesting dippers up Storm Castle Creek last week, and it reminded me of the Field Note I wrote for the Montana Natural History Center this past spring. DID YOU KNOW?

On a hike with friends earlier in July, we stumbled across these pink trumpet-like flowers. They are known as wild bergamot, scientific name monarda fistulosa. Also called bee balm, the flower is in the mint family, and has been used to make teas and oils to treat respiratory ailments.
