I’m happy to be back in your inbox this month. If you are receiving these letters for the first time, welcome!

Spring is springing in Montana, which means near-daily fluctuations from snow to rain to sun back to snow to sun to clouds. I find that an abundance of weather brings an abundance of emotion, moods shifting in my interior landscape to match the external landscape. Spring contains multitudes—in the same season that flowers and shifting clouds remind us of our impermanence, deep underground, new growth is taking root.

This season, I find myself calling on old teachers. We recently rearranged our bookshelves and in the process, I unearthed some of my favorite books. I moved them to within arm’s reach of my writing desk, that I might call on them when I need them. If a flock of geese is a gaggle, perhaps an accumulation of authors is an accompaniment. Books I’m keeping especially close these days are Liz Gilbert’s Big Magic, Anne Lamott’s Bird By Bird, and Martha Beck’s The Way of Integrity.
